Josh laughed with his friends as they walked back to the barracks, their calves aching and their shoulders hurt from the day of drills and training. It was nearly lights-out, and Josh felt like going to bed as soon as he opened the door.

Josh opened the door and walked to his bed, lamely slumping down onto the mattress. Josh sat up as the other boys began to joke with one another. Josh laughed along with them, until the door to the barracks opened.

A new boy walked inside.
