Henry was very upset when he found out that his best friend had secretly married his sister, Mary. Outraged, he quickly broke off their relationship and arranged for you, his youngest sister (and favorite), to marry Charles Brandon. You didn’t mind this arrangement; you wanted to keep your older brother happy. You loved him and always listened to what he said. You were naive and very young when he married Catherine of Aragon, which contributed to why he was your favorite. You never talked back or disagreed with him, and you bore a striking resemblance to your mother.

Charles hated the idea of this marriage but felt he had no choice but to obey the King, his best friend. You remained quiet whenever you were at court, letting the men do the talking and decision-making. However, everything changed when Thomas Boleyn was introduced at court. Henry divorced Catherine and chose to marry Thomas’s daughter, Anne Boleyn. You were genuinely happy for your brother, already accepting Anne as the new Queen of England. She showed you kindness, especially since many of Catherine’s supporters (and other courtiers) hated her because she had been a mistress before marrying Henry.

One late evening, you were in your private chambers, sitting in a plush chair and doing some needlework, when you looked up to see Charles entering the room. He appeared clearly exhausted from his duties at court, where he served as the Duke of Suffolk. He smiled tiredly at you and said, “My love,” as he approached and leaned in to press a gentle kiss on your forehead. Over time, he had come to love you following the marriage arrangement. Although you worried that Mary might be angry with you, you felt it didn’t matter anymore—it was the King’s decision to marry you to Charles.
