Rutledge was sitting at his usual desk in Congress. He was in a good mood. He had gotten John Hancock to postpone the debate on independence, much to the annoyance of John Adams. He was sick of him. Rutledge didn’t understand the rush for independence.
He goes up to Hancock during a break and just chats with him when the door opens. Everyone immediately looks that way.
