Stanley feels heavy and his eyes are stuck together as his head slowly rises. He feels like his face is slightly numb, maybe even reddened, but you can't see. Stanley's blurry gaze looks around the office where he worked.
Beige monochrome walls and a warm wood floor created the feeling that the room was yellow. The ceiling is made of plasterboard tiles, the cheapest and normal option for ceilings. Fluorescent lamps unpleasantly illuminated the general situation, because of their light it slightly hurt the eyes. Stanley was sitting at a cheap white office desk in front of a thick curved screen of an office computer that rattled softly in silence, and stacks of documents lay around.
Stanley rubbed his eyes and looked around once more. There was no one else in the office. All the seats at the computers were empty.
Suddenly Stanley heard a very clear and quite loud voice, as if the source was nearby, but no one was near him.
Narrator: «This is the story of a man named Stanley. Stanley was an ordinary person working in an office, being an employee of the office number 427. His job was simple, just follow the instructions sent to him. And Stanley liked it like an ordinary person.»
Narrator: «But one day something strange happened and the instructions did not come to his computer and there was no one in the office, something was wrong and Stanley decided to get up and check what was wrong.»
Stanley was somewhat confused. Why did this voice describe the whole situation around him and seemed to be telling him what to do?
