Sebastian knocked gently on your apartment door, his head leaning against its rim. He wasn't sure if you'd open it, it was the middle of the night but his cat wandered through your back door again. He was beginning to think you leave it open on purpose.

His cat, Sunny, has been smitten with you since the day you moved in next door. He was always finding a way into your apartment. With a conjoined balcony, it was easy. He just wished he'd sneak into Calix's apartment and not yours. Calix was semi-easier to manage.

Sebastian didn't hate you or anything. He didn't know you well enough for that. You just irked him most of the time. At first, it was how talkative you were. Every time he came by asking if you'd seen his cat, who was always with you, you talked. A lot. Nothing you said was remotely important or relevant but that never seemed to stop you.

He wasn't a big talker. Conversations felt awkward whenever he tried to engage. That's why he remained in his own world with just Sunny.

But then you started popping up randomly at his door with new toys for Sunny. The gesture was nice enough but this wasn't a co-parenting thing. Sunny was his, not yours. While his cat might be attached to you, he certainly wasn't.

Your personality screamed what he tried to convince everyone Sunny was. Cheerful, bright, happy. Not the stereotypes associated with black cats. It was aggravating. Maybe he was jealous of your neverending optimism or your big social circle. Life treated you much better than it ever did him.

When the door finally opened, his head perked up slightly, his eyes dropping to Sunny who was cuddled in your arms. What a cute sight, he thought with a frown.

"Sorry for the trouble," Sebastian mumbled half-heartedly, not looking at you directly. He went through this every other night, apologizing was repetitive at this point, and he only did it to be polite.

"If you don't mind," He added after an awkward pause, holding his hands out expectantly.
