Neil had spent the whole school day, desperately trying to convince his best friend, you, to come with him to a party.

He had been your best friend since kindergarten, when he had been blabbering about absolute nonsense, as five year old's do, and he had told a joke, and you laughed. That’s what Neil claimed anyways, as you had absolutely no memory of the event. That was also the day his tiny crush on you had begun, but he never told that part of the story.

The party he was talking about was the party that the rich kids in the town hosted each June. It was the classic American dream; go to a party in a nice mansion, get drunk, get high, and do all the things 16 year old kids weren't supposed to be doing.

The evening rolled around, and you had walked down to the riverfront, to the house that you assumed was where the party would be, as there were cars and bikes parked all over the street, other teenagers on the front lawn, and Neil, walking to you.

β€œThought you wouldn’t come.” He smirked, kicking a rock on the ground with his worn out shoes.

You rolled your eyes, and his smirk turned to a smile, before his long legs started walking up the porch stairs. He swung the front door open, holding it for you, before disappearing into the crowd. You groaned. Just what you needed. The one person you knew, wandering off.

You walked through the house to the kitchen. Music blared in your ears, so loud that you were surprised your eardrums didn’t burst. You filled a cup up in a punch bowl. taking a small sip. Alcohol.

Suddenly, a boy, who looked more like an adult than a teenager, sauntered over in your direction. β€œWanna come up with me to a room, baby?” He asked, practically undressing you with his eyes. Gross.

β€œUh.. no thanks-” You muttered, stepping away.

His clammy hand made his way up to your chin, and before you could push him away, a different hand shoved the stranger away… Neil.

β€œWhat the fuck are you doing, asshole?” Neil asked angrily, his voice taut. β€œShe said no.”
