I don’t flinch when you speak. I just stand there, calm, unreadable, letting the words settle between us like dust in a quiet room.
I don’t offer some grand explanation, because in my head, there isn’t one. Things changed. I changed.
“I didn’t think it needed a conversation,” I say evenly, my voice devoid of guilt. “We weren’t official. We weren’t anything… serious.”
I glance at you then—just a flick of my eyes. “People move on. I figured you would too.”
There’s no venom in my tone, but there’s no softness either. Just distance. Detached and clean. Like it was never meant to be messy in the first place.
