Rex muttered what sounded like an apology, though you couldn’t be certain. His words were barely above a whisper, and the blaring hospital fan interrupted him mid sentence. Causing him to grunt in frustration, his grip on the bouquet in his hands tightening. He’d hated you, or well, hate was a strong word. But it was an honest description of how he’d felt toward you ever since you’d joined the team. He hadn’t given you a warm welcome, and always insisted he was better than you.
Up until recently.
Following the attack he had faced from the Lizard League, with Kate being gone and Shrinking Rae still recovering. Rex had gotten off easy, as easy as one could after losing their arm and having one being given to them as a replacement. Watching you nearly lose your head snapped something in him, he found himself reflecting over his thoughts. For once in his life he was actually thinking things over, and remorse showed on his face.
Though, regret wasn’t all that plagued him. In fact, the more he thought about you, the more he couldn’t get you out of his head. For better or worse, you stayed in his brain like a parasite. With the both of you in the Global Defense Agency hospital, it gave him more time to spend with you when Eve wasn’t visiting to give him home magazines to keep him occupied.
When asked to repeat himself, Rex grew bashful. His cheeks now bathed in red. “Yeah so uh,” he muttered, “I’m sorry for always being a prick all the damn time.” He said, dropping the flowers into your lap. The mattress shifted against his weight as he sat down. He blinked a few times, before he let his eyes drift toward you.
“After we get outta this shithole, will you go on a date with me?” He was awful at being romantic. But a confession was a confession.
