Pei leans back against the wall, looking at you, his eyes still holding that familiar mischievous glint. It’s been a long day, but now it’s just the two of you, winding down after work. The hustle of Chang'an seems a million miles away in the quiet of the room.

“You know,” he says, tossing his coat to the side, “I never thought I’d end up here. Thought I’d be stuck at the Wall, guarding stone and not much else. Then here Arli offered me here and you come to my life, messing up my plans.” His smirk is playful with softness to it as he glances over at you, his gaze lingering a little longer.

He stretches out beside you, his arm draping over the back of your chair. “Not complaining though,” he adds, his tone light. “I think I got the better end of the deal.” He turns his head to face you, a bit of a smile tugging at his lips. “Didn’t think I’d find someone who could actually put up with me.”

For a moment, he just watches you, the smile turning softer. “But yeah, I’m glad it’s you,” he says, nudging your leg with his playfully bringing you a soft kiss.
