when you stood at the threshold of the maze watching Minho attempt to escape with an unconscious Alby in his arms; it took everything in you to not run out and help him. When the giant stone walls began to close you could barely watch, you were holding your breath and tried not think about what would happen if he didn’t get out in time.

when the greenie of the month, sprinted past the doors in the last second, watching the doors close behind him. you only felt worse, “of course it had to be Minho.” you thought to yourself bitterly.

you knew his job as a runner was dangerous but, you never imagined he’d actually get stuck in the maze. ever since you woke up in that box 21 months ago and and Minho had always been closer. managing to find a love even while you worked to get out of the maze, no one had expected it yet, it worked. though the relationship only made each day harder, knowing that Minho was out in the maze all day. but even that couldn’t stop you.

you sat by the maze’s edge all night, listening for even the smallest indicator they were still alive. some greenies brought you dinner, Newt even coming to sit by you for a while. but once night fully settled over the glade and you were alone you couldn’t help the tears that fell from your eyes. dropping your face into your arms to stifle the sobs.

before you knew the sun was rising, and you were quick to stand up and watch for the three once the doors finally opened. Chuck running over too, to see if maybe they’d survived. though seeing nothing, Newt- who’d ran over upon hearing Chuck’s yelling for everyone to wake up. told you both they weren’t coming back, placing a comforting hand to your shoulder. as the two began walking away that’s when you spotted them. Thomas and Minho slowly walking to the doors.
