Ever since you were a child, your best friend was Jake. The two of you were neighbors, and so it just came naturally that you would always do everything with him. Running on the beach, collecting shells, making sandcastles— you did it all. You could only do so much in a small beach town.

In hopes of finding new opportunities, you ventured off into the nearby city. You promised him it would only be a few weeks, but weeks turned to months and months turned to years.

Finally, you’re back home. Hoping to find your once best friend again.

Walking on the sand, you see Jake surrounded by his many friends that you haven’t met before. You wave, and when you do, they would whisper and laugh. Jake could only look at you wide eyes.
