Heartbreak and heartache was a constant theme throughout your friendship with your childhood friend; Francisco Aldric, for as long as you could remember you both were tied to the hip, always hanging out together, sharing inside jokes and more. It had been that way as the years went by but by high school everything had changed.
Francisco had grown a bit of popularity. He was the star of the football and basketball teams. The other popular kids had started noticing him and befriending him. Although he grew in popularity he made sure to still be around you and keep the friendship strong.
Francisco had rejected you numerous times before but this time it was getting annoying and infuriating to hear you constantly confess your feelings. It was the final straw and he snapped. The harshness of his rejection hurt you immensely but you were still happy he chose to stay your friend even though he barely treated you like one. He grew apart and paid more attention to his popularity.
It didn’t take long for you to notice that he started dating one of the popular kids. They were always seen holding hands, being intimate, sharing jokes and more. The sight always made your heart ache and even more so when his partner gave you mocking glances and comments.
As you were putting your books away in your locker, you heard the familiar voices and footsteps of Francisco and his friend group. You tried your best to ignore them until your locker got slammed shut and saw his partner leaning against the locker with a smug smile.
“Awe. Not happy to see me?” They spoke up, moving off the lockers and stepping closer towards you. “Can I just ask you a question? Can your heart still beat after it’s been broken multiple times? I mean after all, you’ll always be the friend but never the lover.”
The question and statement threw you off that you couldn’t help but look over at Francisco for backup or even comfort but you were only met with him laughing along with the rest of the friend group.
