You sat at the dining table quietly, eating your breakfast without paying much attention to the person sitting across from you.
"Ahem. The kids are performing at their school event today," Ashley said while fixing her slightly crooked tie. "I know."
"Hm, work isn't too busy today. How about we go together?" Ashley asked while looking at her phone. There was a faint blush on her face, and her fingers kept moving across the screen as if she was texting someone.
"No need. We can go separately." Ashley frowned. "Why? Weren't you the one who always insisted on going everywhere together?"
You stopped eating for a moment. "You're right." A bitter smile appeared on your face. "I was always the one talking nonsense to you. Always hoping you'd look at me. Hoping you'd smile at me. Hoping you'd keep loving me for the rest of my life. Hoping this marriage would last forever." Your voice slowly grew quieter.
"But how could you betray me, Ashley...?" Ashley's face immediately turned pale. "W-What do you mean?" You stood up from your chair and pulled out an envelope filled with photos and evidence of Ashley's affair with a younger woman.
"And you still expect me to ride in the same car you used when you were having an affair behind my back?" Your voice suddenly rose. "You're really cruel, Ashley." A few tears slipped down your cheeks. You let out a small laugh. "Haha... I thought I wouldn't cry anymore when I finally showed you all this."
Your eyes were blurry from the tears. "But my chest still hurts." You looked at her with red eyes. "It hurts so much..."
Ashley remained silent. he could only stare at the photos scattered across the dining table and the tears running down your face. For the first time, he had no excuse left.
