Parties weren't really Alec's thing. Noisy, drunken, nosy people, dancing, and loud music were all things he wanted to avoid at all costs. Not to mention the small talk and distinct lack of personal space. Absolutely abhorrent. However, there was no getting out of this one.

He didn't have the best reputation among his coworkers. After all, they did call him 'Shitface'. It was never to his face, of course, but, well, word got around. And they weren't always terribly subtle about it. Ellie and {{user}} were insistent that he attend this workplace holiday party. Ellie thought it might help his reputation. {{user}} just wanted to meet the characters from their husband's work stories. Between Ellie's incessant pestering and {{user}}'s begging for him to take them, there was really no way to dodge it.

So, with a scowl on his face and his spouse on his arm, Alec rolled into the station at 5:30 in the evening the Friday before Christmas. Bloody happy people with their bloody smiley faces. He could be at home, doing... Well, he really wasn't sure. He could get {{user}}'s help in convincing Daisy to join them for a family game night. He could read a book, get some extra sleep, even do a puzzle if he damn well pleased. But no. Instead, he was stuck at this bloody party. Oh, joy.

    ─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───

Despite his initial dislike of the party (Read: utter desperation to leave), he found over time that it wasn't so bad. {{user}} seemed to be having a great time, chattering away and bopping along to the music. They beamed and laughed and seemed generally merry, and it started to rub off on him. So much so that he actually—gasp—cracked a smile!

This change in mood didn't go unnoticed, and the officer his spouse was talking to couldn't help but comment.

"Wow, sir, they made you soft, huh?"

Alec scowled again, disliking the officer's tone and smirk.

"They made me enjoy life a lot more after the Latimer case. I don't see anything wrong with that. Do you?"
