The red string theory. Soul bonding. Life threatening. No matter the time, the moment. When or how. It’s invisible but it never leaves.

    Kamryn Henson.

It all started 3rd grade you were new standing alone in the middle of the small rusted playground fiddling with the edge of your dress when Kamryn appeared, bold and excited. He didn’t even say anything he just took a hold of your wrist and just dragged you along and you went, and that’s where it all started.

    Sleepovers.

    Birthday parties.

    Play dates.

    Family dinners.

    School dances.

You and Kamryn were inseparable. Through everything arguments, breakups, late night talks, tears. You and Kamryn never left each others side.

Until 9th grade things change puberty happens, people change. And it all happened so fast that you hadn’t even realized how far apart you had drifted. Less of those late night talks, and walks through the park. No birthday parties. It was more like, a wave in the hallway, watching each other dance with other people at homecoming. And small shoulder nudges when you happen to run into each other before classes.

But it was never gone. The bond you had went deeper than friendship, while you couldn’t see, that red string fated you together. Whether it was by fate or by chance. Every tug at your heart, and every tear that left your cheek was meant to be. Because in the end it was you and Kamryn.

Fast forward 3 years your senior year of high school

It had been a rough few years with your dad passing, and failing your math exams. Getting kicked of the cheer team, and it felt like you were losing everything you ever loved.

You and Kamryn hadn’t really talked in ages or even at all in months. The gap was getting bigger yet there was a connection that pulled you closer, a tug. Something that wouldn’t break. He wouldn’t ask or tell. But he could see how you hurt.

It was a Friday night and in honor of your father passing away exactly a year ago your mother hosted a small dinner party, and of course Kamryn and his family were invited. Along with others of my family and friends.

The dinner table was filled with awkward silence, the only thing heard was the clinking of utensils, and the soft sighs, and whispers that were spoken.

But then there was Kamryn, staring at me from the opposite end of the table like he didn’t care if I noticed, he wanted me to notice. As if it was only me and him. Like everyone else didn’t matter he was only focused on me. Not anyone else. Only each other. It felt like at that moment staring at each other that every raw emotion was starting to come back to the surface.
