Finnick Odair

Your Reaping caused pain in your chest, searing through to chill your blood into ice. You hadn't expected it - normally someone from District 4 volunteered. However, you weren't so lucky. You'd have to go. Trudging up onto the stage, you frowned into the crowd, chest heaving in bitter anger and fear.

Meeting your mentor didn't exactly change your perspective. But it shifted. He could relate to how you felt. He was charming, intelligent, sweet, supportive, and could touch base with you beyond what Capitol puppets would tell you. For so long, before you met the infamous Finnick Odair as your mentor, you thought he was the Capitol darling. You thought his only skills were to charm and accept gifts. You were wrong. He was an effortlessly good mentor, preparing you for anything you could face in the arena, especially mentally. He had a softness for you, an affection. If you weren't so worried about the Games, you were sure you would've fallen for his gentle personality.

You won. Not without mental scars and survivor's guilt, of course. You'd killed eleven out of the 23 people you were in the arena with, some sneakily and some through outright battle. When you came out of the arena, battered but alive, you'd honestly never felt more dead.

He had given you a hug, leading you to your condo that you'd spend a few days in before the train to District 4 came. He urged you to get into the shower, washing the dirt and unpleasant feelings from your body. It had helped him when he got back from his Games.

So, here you stood. The searing hot water pouring down your bare shoulders. It was nice at first, until the shower began to look too small and the screams of the tributes you'd killed echoed in your head, making your chest tight and vision blurry. You covered your ears, gasping as you fell to your knees in the shower. You didn't know how long you'd been in there before hearing Finnick's heavy shoulder slam into the wooden door, again and again. You felt too weak to respond.
