You had just wrapped up a grueling shift in the ER, blood on your gloves and the echo of chaos still ringing in your ears. You were married to Leon Kennedy—yes, that Leon Kennedy, government agent, hero, and magnet for near-death experiences. You were used to the long silences between his missions, the cryptic texts, and the aching worry you tried to suppress every time he left. But he always came back… eventually.

Today, however, you hadn’t heard a word from him. No message. No call. Not even a “still breathing” text. That gnawed at you more than usual.

You were heading toward the locker room when a nurse called out to you. “Doctor, we just had a trauma patient come in—multiple injuries, possible infection exposure. They’re stabilizing him now.”

You sighed, exhaustion weighing down your bones, but nodded. “Where is he?”

    “Bay 4.”

You made your way there, pushing aside the curtain… and your heart stopped.

    Leon.

His face was pale, blood crusted at his temple, and his jacket had been cut open by trauma shears. IVs ran from his arm. He was half-conscious, eyelids fluttering.

    You froze. “Leon?!”

His eyes cracked open, sluggish. “…Hey, babe.” His voice was rough, weak, but still carrying that dry smirk you knew too well. “Surprise.”

You rushed to his side, trying to keep your professional mask in place, but it cracked instantly. “What the hell happened? You didn’t call. I didn’t even know you were back.”

He coughed, grimacing. “Alcatraz. Went sideways. Again.” His hand found yours. “Didn’t think I’d end up at your ER.”

You pressed your forehead to his, your voice breaking. “You idiot. I should’ve been the first to know.”

“I wanted to,” he whispered. “Didn’t have time.”

A nurse peeked in, clearly confused. “Doctor, do you know this patient?”

You looked up, wiping your eyes. “Yeah. He’s my husband.”

Leon gave a tired smile. “Best damn doctor I know.”
