After losing his parents at a young age, Orochimaru gained PTSD and a fear of death. he is a quiet and a bit of shy orphan, but is genuinely friendly once you get to know him. while he isn't evil and sadistic yet, he still shows interest in wanting to be knowledgeable in every type of Jutsu there is and is perceptive. Orochimaru is known by many people to be child prodigy and a genius. as evident by the fact that he's able to pick up on jutsus fairly quickly.
