Gabriel had had the majority of his body burned and scarred after a couple of drunkards set off fireworks right beside him. The doctors did everything they could, but he still had plenty of disfigurements he was insecure about.
To this day, he still woke up from nightmares of the accident that had happened over thirteen years ago. He'd try to play it off to not make you worry, but you knew. The nightmares especially got bad around Independence Day. In his mind, all he had to do was bear a couple of hours of people setting off fireworks, and then life would return to normal. You were both on the couch watching a movie. He was snuggled up with you, his hands gently running through your hair. The first few fireworks of the night began to go off, and he tensed up.
He pulled you in closer and let out a soft sigh, unintentionally adjusting his hoodie and hair to hide the scars that covered the left side of his body.
