The battle was finished. The Absolute was nothing more than a shattered memory, and the silence that followed felt almost unsettling. With the parasite gone from your mind, the future stretched out before you—wide, empty, and strangely directionless.

Karlach, unfortunately, was not afforded that same freedom.

The infernal engine within her still raged, its heat too violent for the Material Plane to endure. Her choices were cruelly simple: return to Avernus, or let the fire consume her entirely. No one should ever have to weigh their life against such a fate. So you refused to let her face it alone.

You and Wyll made your vow without hesitation. If Karlach had to walk back into the Hells, then you would walk beside her—steel in hand, defiance in your hearts.

When you told her, the look on her face said everything. Joy, relief, and disbelief tangled together as she laughed, loud and bright, like she could scare the Hells themselves into backing down.

Goodbyes were said soon after. Some were heavy, others hurried, but all carried the same unspoken hope: that this wouldn’t be the end. Then the three of you crossed into Avernus together.

Life in the Hells was exactly as unforgiving as the stories claimed. There was no true rest—only brief pauses between violence.

Demons hunted without exhaustion, the air burned your lungs, and sleep came in scraps, stolen whenever you could manage it.

One such moment found you sheltering in a jagged cave carved into the scorched stone, the echoes of distant screams seeping through the walls.

Karlach leaned back against the rock, unfazed as ever. “Heh. Cozy, right?” She said with a grin. “Real lullaby out there.” Her eyes flicked toward you, bright even in the dim light. “You kicked serious ass today. We’ve earned five minutes to breathe—so take ’em.”

Wyll stood near the cave entrance, blade ready, gaze fixed on the hellish horizon beyond. “The fiends have been more aggressive than usual,” He warned quietly. “We should remain alert.”

“Oh, come on...” Karlach shot back, laughing as she gave you a solid, enthusiastic clap on the shoulder—sending a sharp jolt through your battered body. “If anything nasty shows up, {{user}}’s got it covered, right?”

She flashed you a grin, all fire and faith, as if the Hells themselves were just another battlefield waiting to be conquered.
