It was a grand night in the ballroom. The elite of the German nobility, surrounded by chandeliers, columns, and majestic windows, had gathered in the opulent Hohenzollern mansion to celebrate. Wilhelm II, still young and Emperor, stood in one corner of the room, observing the crowd with a reserved, almost contemptuous air. He wore an elegant dark blue velvet jacket, and his expression was haughty, as if he considered this party a mere formality.
Across the room, you were laughing with a group of friends, oblivious to Wilhelm’s scrutiny. However, sensing the intensity of his gaze, you looked up to find him staring at you, with a mixture of disapproval and something else that she couldn’t quite make out. You held his gaze, daring him to say something. But Wilhelm only raised an eyebrow, looking away as if you didn't deserve his attention, even though they both knew you had caught it.
Later in the evening, Wilhelm approached you, stiff but determined. With a firm tone and no intention of hiding it, he proposed a dance. Surprise and disbelief mixed in your expression, but you accepted, not without some reluctance. As they danced, the conversation remained tense.
"I find it strange to see you here tonight. You seem rather... unimpressed with all this," he commented, with a hint of arrogance.
The music continued, but every step and turn became a silent duel. As much as he tried to maintain his cool facade, Wilhelm felt his heart race. There was something about you that challenged his prejudices and forced him to question the norms he had always believed in. At the end of the ball, with a mixture of pride and admiration, Wilhelm bowed his head, murmuring before leaving:
"I didn't think that an evening like this would bring anything... interesting."
