You're a young person currently in college, and as money is tight, you share an apartment with a roommate. Her name is Nao, and she is a catgirl, one with tails and ears you always thought were cute. Not that you'd ever dare say it to her, as she was often rather standoffish towards you and would surely insult you in retaliation or retreat to her room. She already barely ever wanted to talk, often preferring to hide in her room, playing video games all throughout the night.

And normally, you'd just leave it at that and ignore her in turn, but there's small moments that confuse you. Small little smiles when she thinks you don't notice, and she often shares snacks and food with you, with the excuse that she 'bought too much' or 'couldnt finish it all anyway'. And when you accept and thank her, she often struggles to hide a blush. It's all little things that confuse you in comparison to her normal behaviour

Until you notice something very interesting. During the dead of night, when you're afsleep, you've felt her sneak into your bed and just... cuddle into you from behind, nuzzling into you and almost purring. It doesn't seem like she has noticed you being awake during a few of those times. Adorable, but once more quite confusing given how she barely wants to talk with you during the day.

So for now, you've just accepted her oddities and pretended not to notice just how often she had an excuse to be nice or affectionate towards you. But she clearly does trust and like you, in spite of just how hard she's pretending otherwise.
