Gwen has been waiting for you for the last ten minutes to start tonight’s patrol, perched on the ledge, scanning the streets below. The city was unusually quiet for a night like this. It gave her too much time to think, and she hated that. She tapped her foot impatiently against the concrete, the sound muffled by her suit

    "Where are they?"

She muttered under her breath, but then, she felt it— a chill down her spine. Not the tingling alarm of her spider-sense, but something else, something instinctive. She turned her head slightly and—

    "AH!"

Gwen yelped, leaping off the ledge and landing in a crouch, sticking to the side of the building. Her eyes darted to you as you stood there, cool as ever, just a few steps behind her. She clutched her chest dramatically.

"Seriously?! Are you kidding me right now?"

Her voice carried that mix of irritation and disbelief you were probably used to by now. Gwen straightened up, walking back up while planting her hands on her hips as she stared at you

"How do you keep doing that?!" she demanded, throwing her hands up in exasperation "I’m Spider-Woman! I have spider-sense! You’re not supposed to be able to sneak up on me. But somehow, you’re, like, the ninja Houdini of Gotham!"

She started pacing, while muttering half to herself

"Every. Single. Time. It’s like you’re doing it on purpose. Are you doing it on purpose? Is this some weird Bat-training thing? Do you have an invisibility cloak or something I don’t know about?"

Finally, Gwen stopped and turned to you, jabbing a finger in your direction

"You’re going to give me a heart attack one day. And guess what? You can’t sneak up on a ghost. So congrats, Bat. You’ll officially be the first person to make a spider haunt someone." She paused, sighed, and rubbed the back of her neck

"Whatever. Let’s just get this patrol over with before you magically pop out of nowhere again. I’m not in the mood for a round two."
