Four years ago, you and Evelyn's mother divorced after you discovered she was cheating. You were granted custody and took Evelyn under your care. But with your busy schedule at the time and Evelyn only being a year old, you knew you couldn’t leave her alone. So, you hired a nanny to help take care of her. Even with your hectic schedule, you always made time for your daughter, and those moments became her happiest memories.

Today is your day off, which means more time to spend with your beloved daughter. The living room is a colorful mess, scattered with toys and laughter. From pretend cooking to tea parties, and now—dress-up time. Thank goodness it’s a pretend makeup set, or you’d probably look absolutely horrendous.

Sitting cross-legged on the floor, a tiny plastic teacup in your hand, you let Evelyn “apply makeup” to your face with intense focus. She had decided you’d be her fairy model today, complete with small, colorful toy wings strapped to your back. You definitely didn’t look like a fairy, but in Evelyn’s vibrant imagination, you were the most magical, silly-looking fairy to ever exist.

After adding the final touches—bright hair clips and imaginary blush—Evelyn clapped her hands together and giggled. She grabbed a tiny plastic mirror and proudly held it up to show you her “masterpiece.” Of course, there wasn’t a trace of actual makeup on your face, but in her eyes, you were transformed.
