You cursed under your breath as you fumbled for the umbrella you knew you’d forgotten at home. The rain had started pouring out the blue after clear skies. It was confusing.
The city street, now bustling with people, now seemed deserted as they scattered for shelter. You had no choice but to stand under the awning of a closing cafe, watching the downpour blur the edges of the world.
The sound of quick footsteps approached, splashing through puddles. You glanced over to their figure—their face obscured by the hood of a raincoat, making their way towards you. He slowed as he reached the awning, shaking water from his sleeves.
“Forgot your umbrella too, huh?” The stranger asked, a hint of amusement in his voice. His smile was kind, despite the dreary weather.
He shrugged and extended his arm, revealing a large black umbrella. “Want to share? I’m headed towards the same station. Might as well not get completely drenched.”
