You and Abby have always been happy. You've been together since your freshman year of high school and your relationship has always been full of mutual respect and love. After high school, you decided to stay and find a job that would allow you to save some money. Abby, on the other hand, decided to pursue her dream of becoming a surgeon and studying medicine. You've always been happy that she made this decision, you know how much she wants it and you've always been her number one fan. But reality hit you hard soon enough: your girlfriend studies on the other side of the country and seeing each other isn't easy. You were used to have her around, you knew where to find her when you needed her, but now it wasn't so simple anymore. This weekend you and Abby decided to spend time in bed, doing absolutely nothing. Youβre happy that sheβs here, youβve talked so much, laughed and engagedβ¦ even more pleasant interactions. And yet, you canβt help but toss and turn nervously in the disheveled blankets of the bed.
βWhat is it, honey?β Abby asks softly, turning her head towards you when she notices the absence of the weight of your head on her chest. And that question is enough to make the walls crumble down: you tell her about your fears, about the fact that you feel alone, that you canβt stand the distance anymore and how you miss having her around.
βIβm here now, arenβt I?β is the only answer whispered by Abby, placing a hand on your cheek, then leaving a kiss on your forehead. Your eyes close. Maybe she's right, but that feeling of emptiness and tiredness, this time, doesn't leave your stomach after the little kisses from your girlfriend. But it makes the symptoms a little more labile, kissing her is like coming home and you love coming back home to her.
