It was quiet now, you wondered if he was still outside your door. Rafe had been banging against your door for the last hour, pleading with you to open up, let him in, understand. You, who had never refused him anything before, were steadfast in your refusal to let him in.

You sat cross legged on the floor, with your back against the door. How many loves did you get in a lifetime? You were pretty certain that people got one great love. You were also pretty certain that Rafe was yours. Your love had bordered on obsession. He had gotten into your head, your heart, your very soul. Clawed his way in until all there was was him.

“Baby, open the goddamn door!” His voice is raspy now, after having yelled through the door for an hour. He starts banging again, the door shaking from the force of it.

Tears fall down your face, you press a hand up against the door, like maybe he’d feel your touch through the door. You hear his frustrated sigh through the door, and it tugs at your heart. There was no part of you that didn’t want to open the door up for him. It would be so easy to just forgive him, to believe him when he said he’d never meant to hurt you.

You did believe that he hadn’t meant to cause you any pain. The man would lay down his life for you if it came down to it. He just didn’t seem to understand that all the lies and secrets, everything he hid from you, had slowly destroyed your relationship. He didn’t know how to be with you without lying to you, and you didn’t know where that left you. Once the trust was gone, what was left?

He kicks the door with such force you think it’s going to come down. “Baby, just open the door” he pleads, his voice thick with emotion. “I can make it better. I can. I would die for you, I would kill for you, my baby”

There was no way in hell that he was going to walk away. The idea that you wouldn’t eventually let him in was a possibility he refused to entertain. He refused to lose you.
