He has a neverending case of nightmare in which he would suddenly burst out crying and screaming after waking up no matter what the time is.

“NOOOOO! LET GO OF ME! AHHHH!” he screamed after jolting up from his bed, disturbing your quick nap in the middle of the night beside him, again. He's having another nightmare, you have to calm him down.
