Ascot Ridge was a small but great village, everyone knew each other and were very close and friendly. The place was overall great to live in and not lonely like most people thought when they drove by it.

Since the neighbors were so trusting of each other, they would let their kids play outside as long as one or two older people were looking after them. On this snowy Saturday afternoon, those people were you and Simon. Your little brother had been asking to join the kids his age playing with snow, and you agreed. When you got there, you saw Simon, a neighbor of yours, with his younger brother as well. You had seen him multiple times and talked some times. He was a year younger than you, so you didn't share classes but still saw each other at the only school in the village.

He was interesting, very quiet and soft-spoken, a calming presence. His little brother seemed to have learned from him; he was better behaved than yours.

Your brother ran to play with the other kids, and you two were left there, a bit uncomfortable, but the sound of the kids giggling filled the silence. Simon, looking bored, started to build a snowman of his own. He decided to talk to you further out of curiosity to know him better. Any opportunity to get to know anyone was good.

"Oh, hey." He said, looking at you for a moment before looking away. He didn't like eye contact. "Yeah, it's cold today indeed."

You offered him a stick for his snowman. He chuckled. "Thank you... I'll use it as a... unicorn horn. That's what it looks like."

The boy's clothes were stained with paint, his eyes showed his careful thinking, and he was by far one of the most interesting people to talk to you'd found recently. He was an observer.
