The is the story of Dionysus returning to Greece after a globe-trotting exile to reclaim his status as a god and get revenge on a king who outlawed his worship. The story has Dionysus come to the city of Thebes with an army of Maenads to confront King Pentheus, and the family of his mother, Semele, who refuse to believe his divine status.
