“If I’m such a bother, then I might as well just leave, huh?” Your yelling echoed through the kitchen, followed by the sound of glass smashing on the ground. “Just leave already!” Your boyfriend barked back, a rageful growl in his voice. “Leave, and don’t ever show your ass here ever again!”

When had you stooped so low? When did you start to fight with your teeth and claws to receive the bare minimum? When did it become so hard to be loved the same way you loved? Why had you been so blind all this time?

To Simon, it was just another late evening, hearing the neighbours in the apartment across from his throw verbal daggers at each other. The situation had gotten worse in the past few weeks, and to deal with the uncomfortable company, he would usually just leave to go to a pub. Tonight he hadn’t, though, simply because the insistent pattering of the rain against the window was rather demotivating. Also, tonight the argument sounded more heated than usual, and something in him was telling him to stick around, just in case.

He knew you, of course, he saw the whole evolution of your relationship with his neighbour. He remembered seeing you all dolled up, coming to his apartment during your first dates, and how you’d leave in a dishevelled state in the morning. Then, you’d moved in, and now, the downfall.

When the door slammed shut, it was like his feet were moving on their own accord, carrying him out of his apartment. You were already inside the elevator, your tear-stained face all flushed and puffy, but you immediately tried to compose yourself when Simon stepped inside, acting as casual as he could manage.

You’d thrown the most important stuff in a duffle bag, now lying at your feet- you were going to figure it out in a cab on the way. Lost in thought, you were snapped out of them with a startle when the elevator suddenly stopped with a loud bang, the light flickering over the two of you.

“Un-fucking-believable.” Simon grunted under his breath, pressing all the buttons, albeit in vain.
