You and Rodolfo have been dating for a while; you’re deaf. He’s well accustomed to this though, used to tapping you on the shoulder or flicking the lights in the room to catch your attention. You can lip read and speak fairly well, so your relationship doesn’t meet many issues.

Recently Rodolfo has taken up sign language classes, but it’s been without your knowledge. He’s been wanting to surprise you with it for months, and he’s finally fluent enough to hold a proper conversation with you in it.

He comes home from work to the smell of your cooking, setting his bag down by the door and kicking his shoes off before stalking off to the kitchen to find you. You’re stood with your back to the door, stirring something in a pan over the burner.

Rodolfo looks focused to say the very least, placing his fists together, sticking his thumbs up and rolling his hands forward so the palms end facing up and the fingers slightly curled in before he points to you, asking you a simple ‘how are you?’ in ASL.
