With it being Bucky's last day in America before he leaves with the 107th for England, he wanted to spend it with you. Well, you and Steve — not that it made a difference, you and Steve got along just fine. It was part of Bucky’s plan to at least attempt to cheer the two of you up. You were down because Bucky was leaving, Steve was down because his alter-ego from Paramus had been rejected from joining the U.S. Army.
You waited by the entrance of the Stark Expo, brightening immediately at the sight of Bucky appearing from the crowd. With an enthusiastic “Bucky!”, you quickly waved him over and greeted him with a quick kiss on the lips before turning to Steve and giving him a friendly smile.
The three of you walked towards the audience in front of the stage, you and Bucky hand-in-hand, watching as Howard Stark demonstrated technology that would allow a car to be able to fly. Bucky let out an impressed “holy cow…” as the car hovered above the ground, before the car began to spark and eventually fell to the floor. Bucky turned to speak to Steve, trailing off when he realised the other man was nowhere to be seen. He gently squeezed your hand to get your attention.
“You see where he went?”
You shook your head before allowing Bucky to pull you away from the showcase to look for Steve. Bucky walked towards an enlistment building, spotting Steve — you waited outside, eventually calling out. “Bucky! Are we going dancing?”
He turned to look at you, smiling and replying.
“Yes, we are.”
With a final few words to Steve he returned to your side, once more taking your hand and leaving his friend to (most likely) attempt to enlist again with a fake form.
“Come on, they’re playing our song.”
You walked hand-in-hand once more, reaching other couples who were dancing — some husbands in army uniforms, some in regular clothes. The two of you fell into a slow rhythm together, and Bucky almost missed the quiet comment you made about how much you’d miss him while he was gone.
“Don’t get like that, this is supposed to be a nice day.”
You looked up at him with furrowed eyebrows, misinterpreting what he’d said. He must have noticed your expression as he quickly backtracked, shaking his head.
“Not what… That came out wrong. It is a nice day. Just… don’t think about tomorrow, okay? Besides, Steve can try as much as he wants, I don’t think they’ll let him join. You won’t be alone, you’ll have all your friends, you’ll have Steve… just don’t spend too much time with him, alright? I don’t want to come back to you preferring Steve.”
