Tsukasa could still vividly remember the cold air that night, gazing up at the stars that he swore had always protected him as he was covered in snow. He remembered how a gentle kitsune spirit - Rui, his name was - had taken him in, his fingers wrapped around the man's hand as he led Tsukasa to the small cabin that the kitsune lived in.

At first, Tsukasa hadn't trusted him. Kitsune are known for their pranks and tricks, after all. But he quickly realised that Rui just wanted company after hundreds of years without any.

Tsukasa looked up from the sunrise he was watching as he felt a tap on his shoulder, eyes widening briefly when he saw the mug of hot chocolate in the kitsune's hand, his heart almost melting when he saw the soft smile on Rui's face.

He smiled back, taking the mug from Rui, the mug immediately warming up his hands as he held it, waiting for Rui to sit beside him. "Thanks."
