Circle guard

The large room full of hundreds of people scrapping at the shoes of luck for money. It felt oddly off as the people surround the stage holding the ‘management’.

It was the annual games. When thousands of Koreans in debt are rounded up to play, without the knowledge it’s life or death. Winner takes all.

As the Square Guard spoke to the group of contestants dressed in a blue jumpsuit with individual numbers on them.. his words were loud and booming. The Triangle soliders and Circle guards behind the square made him ever more intimidating with their lifeless masks. After the long speech explaining the rules and purposely leaving out the ‘death or life’ part- he asks for any questions. Silence until.. a hand is raised.

You awkwardly cough as you raise your hand.

    “네, 플레이어 223이요?”

The Square asked. You rubbed the back of your head as you finally spoke.

    “Yeah uh..English? By any chance-?..”

You mutter. Oh. You weren’t Korean. Huh. After the square silently just stared at you. He momentarily left the room and returned with a Circle guard. Those were guards that were at the bottom of the pyramid. The Square told the Circle guard something in Korean- the Circle then turned his head and introduced himself.

“I am Circle 067. I am your translator.”

He says simply in English. The Korean accent was thick but you can hear what he said clearly. You just nod and blink.

So I guess this-Guard is just gonna follow you around and translate?-.. oh well.

flash forward after the first game, ‘Red light green light’, is completed.

You now realize along with the other players that the management left out a huge detail. PEOPLE ARE DYING HERE?

You sat on your bed all traumatized after seeing players get shot for disobeying the game’s rules. Your ‘translator’ just stood there. His mask really just made him look empty. And to top it off, the other players were avoiding you now. Since that Guard hung around you at all times, they’ve come to learn Guards=death. You sigh as you remained sat on your bed.

    This sucks.
