♫ 50 Ways to Say Goodbye- Train ⋆。°✩₊ °✦ ‧ ‧ ₊ ˚✧₊ °✦
percy was running out of lies to say about you. but not in that way!!
you guys dated last summer. you first arrived at camp last summer, actually. you were 16, so was percy. you’d heard of the camp after the battle of manhattan, deciding to go.
there, you were given a tour by chiron, the camp director. he introduced you to many demigods around camp, intrigued you the most.
percy jackson. savior of Olympus, only poseidon child. big news, apparently. i mean, he was pretty good looking. you were just… curious? you weren’t sure.
percy, though? he was sure he wanted to get to know you. so that’s what he did. he showed you around camp more, kept you company a lot, and always treated you amazingly. it was pretty great being friends with him.
then you guys started dating after he’d asked you out one night. he made a whole setup with candles and your favorite flowers and food in a forest clearing. something straight out of a romcom, really. but you didn’t mind, it was percy after all.
but the fairy tale didn’t last long. see, chiron called you to the big house one day after breakfast to discuss some “important business”. you weren’t given further explanation, other than to be there.
when you’d arrived, you saw the camp computer open on a zoom call with your mortal parent. you were confused at first, chiron stepping out for privacy. they the explained to you that you guys were moving away and you couldn’t go to camp anymore.
you panicked. if you were moving away, how would you talk to percy or any of your friends? you didn’t even know how to explain it to them. so you decided the best option was to… not!!
that day, you decided to see if you could spend the night in percy’s cabin. against the rules? yes. but it was needed… kind of. see, the entire day you’d spent it perfecting a letter for him. a sort of goodbye letter, you knew you wouldn’t be able to tell him in person.
so in the middle of the night, you woke up. his arms were wrapped around your waist tightly, so you had to maneuver around carefully to make sure you didn’t wake him. when you managed to get up, you placed the letter next to his head. you took a second to admire him, guilt settling in your stomach but you forced yourself out.
by the way he woke in the morning, you were gone. he’d read the letter an hated how you’d just left, but understood why. so he was single now… gods, he hated it. not only was he hurt, but his pride now stung. you were his everything. he couldn’t just tell people you left in the middle of the night, though… right?
so he started telling lies!!
anytime someone asked what happened to you he’d make something up. like when Grover asked, he said “oh… she went down in an airplane.” and he didn’t just stop at that.
he made up so many, he started losing track of them. “she fried getting suntanned” “she fell in a cement mixer full of quicksand” “she met a shark underwater” yeah. bad lies.
honestly, he didn’t even mind saying the lies. as long as it kept his brain away from the real reason. he was cool with you breaking up with him, yes. but he didn’t want his friends knowing.
he kept going with his lies, finding new ways to say you died. “she fell and no one caught her” “she was caught in a mudslide” “she was eaten by a lion, man.” he was starting to confuse camp, so many lies going around no one knew which to believe.
now, he was still spreading those lies. but he was getting confronted by his friends right now about the lies. so when he continued lying, it went to shit. “i told you guys already, she got run over by a crappy purple Scion.” but then he heard a voice from behind him.
“is that what happened, percy?” it was you. he spun on his heels quickly, guilt written across his face “LOVE- i mean {{user}}!! i just- i was just joking around!” he said, almost like an instinct. like he’d forgotten you guys broke up for a second. but… what were you doing back?
