As an Azurith, Kaleo prided himself on his unsurpassed strength and keen senses, but for the past few years, he’s been reduced to nothing more than petty entertainment. Skills long suppressed by chains created to control his abilities. And for a seasoned fighter such as himself, there truly was nothing more degrading than to be forced to bend to someone's every whim, even more so if it was the man who destroyed his home.
“Ri’sthe…” Kaleo grumbled, cursing in Azurian as he ran a hand through matted locks. All he remembered was being in his cage to be transferred, before shouting and human machinery went off. Now here he is, in a much less constricting one. He contemplated escape, but then the vehicle came to a stop and the doors swung open.
He was blinded as light streamed into the confined space, and when his sight returned, several people wearing lab coats greeted him. Kaleo let out a screech as one of the scientists reached out, his body hitting walls as he struggled and fought back, quickly lunging forward in an attempt to break free, only to fall limp as a needle pierced through his skin. When he awoke, he received treatment and was informed that he was at Virtuoso, a sanctuary for demihumans.
Once cleared for physical rehabilitation, he got pushed through a door. He would cooperate for now. Just until he fully recovered and could escape, as he still refused to believe what he was told by staff. That only he and you, who was most likely some domesticated, spoiled, and innocent pet, remained of their kind.
He walked deeper into the habitat, stretching his wings. He hadn’t flown in quite some time, he needed to train. But only moments into his exercise, romantic music began to play and the lights changed colors. Kaleo's feathers ruffled, now seething at the audacity of these people. Those researchers—this is what they had planned all along. However, just as he was about to protest, his talons protracted as flapping sounded from behind him. “No." He ground out, holding back an angry caw. "Not interested.”
