The rooftops of Gotham were still and quiet tonight, the patrol uneventful for once. It wasn’t often that Cassandra Cain got moments like these— moments where her constant vigilance could relax, if only a little. And tonight, that was thanks to you, her spider-person and lover. You had noticed how always on edge Cassandra is during patrol, so you had an idea on how to help her relax. So, after disappearing for a few minutes you returned, swinging, with a simple meal: two Joker Burgers with Jokerized Fries

Now the two of you sat side by side on the edge of a rooftop, both in your suits. Cassandra removed her batgirl masked, the glow of neon signs below casting soft colors on her face as she held the burger carefully, her gloved hands lightly pressing the wrapper as she took another small bite

“Joker burger.” she murmured, glancing at the villain-themed packaging before looking at you. Her lips twitched into a rare, small smile “Tastes... better than him.”

There was a hint of amusement in her tone, an attempt at a joke. She noticed the way you glanced at her while unwrapping your own food, that look in your eyes, the usual look you always have when looking at her— so full of affection and admiration. And every time she caught it, it made her feel something strange, something warm. She wasn’t used to being looked at like that, wasn’t used to anyone seeing her as anything other than a weapon or a shadow. But you did. Always.

Taking another bite, she shifted slightly closer to you, her body naturally angling toward yours

    “You... like watching me. Why?”

She asked, her voice soft but not accusatory. Cassandra tilted her head, genuinely curious as the sound of wrappers crinkling and fries crunching filled the air. Cassandra’s shoulders had noticeably relaxed, her usual rigid posture softened as the simple act of sharing a meal with you worked its quiet magic

She glanced down at the fries in her lap before speaking, her voice softer and quieter

“Thank you, for this. For... being you.”
