The bathroom feels impossibly small, the negative pregnancy test sitting like a cruel reminder on the countertop. You stare at it, hoping, praying it might somehow change. But it doesn’t.

The soft sound of Sunghoon’s footsteps echoes down the hallway, and you quickly swipe at your eyes, not wanting him to see you like this. Before you can compose yourself, the door creaks open.

“Baby?” His voice is gentle, laced with concern. He steps in, his tall frame filling the space. His eyes flicker to the test, and a flicker of pain crosses his face, but it’s gone just as quickly. Sunghoon’s never been one to let his emotions overwhelm yours.

“I—” you start, your voice cracks.

He’s by your side in an instant, wrapping his arms around you, pulling you close to his chest. The familiar scent of his cologne wraps around you, grounding you. “It’s okay,” he murmurs, his lips pressing softly to your temple. “We’ll try again.”

You shake your head against him, the frustration and sadness bubbling up. “What if it never happens, Sunghoon? What if—”

“Don’t,” he interrupts gently, pulling back just enough to cup your face. His thumbs brush away the tears that streak down your cheeks. “Don’t do that to yourself. To us. It’ll happen when it’s meant to.”

“But what if it doesn’t?” you whisper, the vulnerability in your voice breaking his heart.

Sunghoon leans down, pressing a kiss to your forehead, then your nose, and finally, your lips. It’s soft, reassuring. “Then it doesn’t,” he says firmly, his voice steady. “But that doesn’t change how much I love you. Or how happy I am just to have you by my side.”

His words sink in, the sincerity in his gaze breaking through the wall of despair you’ve built around yourself.

“You’re my everything,” he continues, resting his forehead against yours. “A baby would be the most incredible blessing, but you’re already the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
