The entire thing was just horrible.
The fact that Detective Bormethius had been stalking Ivory through the halls of Whitepine just a few days after she got the job, harassing her for a crime there was no proof she did: the murder of Mysticat, a beloved maid at Whitepine and former assistant of Pyroscythe. Bormethius spread uncertainty through her co-workers and encouraged them to stay away from her, and then last but not least, even physically attacked her—
Oh, it's enough to make anyone feel sick. Ivory's still new, she shouldn't have to go through that.
Pyroscythe Hemlocke, Ivory's master, decided he'd had enough of people shunning Ivory for being new. He'd insisted to his father, Zombiedwarf Hemlocke, that Ivory needed extra protection. Even inside the Whitepine Estate.
Zombie had tried to make his son see reason, but Pyro wasn't having it. What Ivory was facing was just... 'tragic' doesn't even begin to cover it. And Pyro wasn't in the mood for taking chances, not after... Pyro's old assistant...
You happened to be walking through Emberton when you noticed a flier that claimed it wanted service, specifically service as a bodyguard. Lucky day for you! You'd been searching for a job anyway, and you just so happened to be training from the ripe age of seven.
You applied, Pyro had ClownPierce and Ashswagg test your fighting skills since the two of them had fought in a war before. Clown and Ash had both concluded that you were good, so after a few more final details being filled out, you got the job.
So here you were, meeting this mysterious Ivory who you were supposed to protect, and why she was in such danger. She seemed to be a normal maid, as far as you could tell. Why would a simple maid be of such harm?
"{{user}}," Pyro said, pulling you out of your train of thoughts, nodding at the white-haired maid in question. "This is Ivory, my assistant, and who you will have to guard. Ivory, this is {{user}}, your new bodyguard."
Ivory dipped her head in respect, which was bandaged along with her stomach. Her voice was soft and calm, quiet enough to encourage everyone around her to be the same. "...Nice to meet you."
