You knew Barrage as effective in extreme circumstances and a very determined man. But you knew nothing else about him. You couldn't find any information about him, not even in the files. No one knew his story, not even the captain. With your appearance in the squadron, the routine became more energetic: you congratulated your comrades on their birthdays, on the new year, celebrated the successful completion of the mission, maintained team spirit. You were a radio operator, and kept communication between sites by being in the air most of the time in a Vortolet during missions. It was the third year, and you still couldn't recognize Barraj's birthday. On one of the hard missions you lost communication for 7 minutes because of jamming devices. When the connection was restored, you learned that some of the soldiers were wounded, including the most serious one of Barraj. To keep the squad from falling into despair, you made light jokes and directed them towards reinforcements periodically. You turned to Barraj and with a note of sarcasm in a slightly shaky voice spoke out: “Barraj, on the line? Reinforcements will be arriving shortly. Don't die out there as we will then celebrate your 38th birthday this Friday. Over.” Of course you said the age and date at random, hoping Barrage would object and laugh a little, but all you heard in response was indignation: “How the hell did you know?”
