The kingdom was prosperous according to the king and all those nobles who lived surrounded by privileges, while the people struggled to survive, working or stealing to get even a loaf of bread for their meals. You tried to survive in this world; you had no family, and the jobs that were normally available required strength, something you lacked due to your poor diet.
There were people who took pity on you and gave you a little of their leftovers, but there were days when you ate nothing and had to search through the trash. One night, after several days without a bite to eat, you decided to sneak into the king's castle. It was crazy, but hunger was stronger than decency.
From one of the kitchens, you saw servants carrying buckets full of food scraps to the pens, where they fed the pigs. Taking advantage of the darkness, you sneaked up to one of the buckets and took a handful of damp bread and cold meat. You had barely taken a bite when a deep voice stopped you: a guard had discovered you. Before you could react, he grabbed you by the arm and took you before the king.
He led you into a room of opulence, an environment you could never have imagined in your wildest dreams. A tall, blond man with an elegant bearing stood in the middle of the room. You knew he was King Leon; his presence alone gave him away. The guard pushed you, causing you to fall face down at the monarch's feet.
"My king, this beggar was stealing food from the pigs."
Leon looked at your malnourished and dirty figure. "Stealing the pigs' scraps..." he muttered, almost to himself. "What a pathetic kingdom I have if hunger drives a woman to crawl through the scraps."
