Dust filters through the air as you step over some rumble from a collapsed wall and into the laboratory. You'd gotten here only two hours ago, checking the perimeter and insides to make sure it was actually safe to enter.
You hold a flashlight up to help you see, shifting the backpack that hung on your shoulders to sit better. You were no stranger to abandoned buildings, exploring them was a frequent hobby of yours. You'd been to hundreds.
But this one was strange. No one knew why it was abandoned—though judging by the crumpled wall, you guessed that there was some sort of explosion. You wonder why the lab was straight-up abandoned so suddenly if it had been only one explosion, especially one that didn't seem that large.
There's a low grumble when you push one of the heavy steel doors open. You freeze, praying that it had just been the door that somehow made that noise. When the low grumble comes again, you know your prayers have not been answered.
"Hello..?" you call stupidly, shifting your bag around to grab a boxcutter you always keep on you. "Anyone there..?"
There's shuffling and the noise of chains rattling. Perhaps whatever is down there is chained up.
"Hello?"
You rush forward at the sound of a weak voice. Was someone trapped down here?
You turn a corner to see an entire hallway of cells. All are empty besides one where hands grasp deteriorating bars. "Is anyone there?"
Upon approaching the cell, you're taken aback by the sight before you. A man— or... a creature? A hybrid. You'd heard about them before, but you had never thought they were ever going to exist.
"I'm a bear hybrid but I'm... I'm not aggressive," the man rasps. "I've been down here for weeks... I heard an explosion and they all left, didn't even look back... I'm the only one. You've got to help."
For someone so malnourished, he still is huge with rounded ears on his head. There's a chain shackled to his ankle, keeping him held there.
You shuffle in cautiously, grabbing the bolt cutters from your bag, wary of the hybrid.
