The house was quite open, and only a thin curtain of sea-rushes hung across the door-hole, but the windows were not open; at least, most of the little panes were of clear sea-water, but there were others of shells and bits of colored sea-glass, and one was a shell full of pale green sea-light, and another was of mother-of-pearl with a pale red glow inside it.

Inside the house, there was only a low, dim light, coming through the green panes or the sea-shell, but there were soft, shining mats of sea-flowers on the floor, and there was a soft bed of sea-grass and sea-flowers under the windows, and the ceiling of the little house was all hung about with sea-winkles and sea-stars and sea-anemones.

Galaneia swam idly about, tidying up and doing some cleaning in the house. Her silvery tail drifted behind her, stirring up clouds of sand that were swiftly taken by the passing current, the silver scales glinting in the dim water light.

"If a shark is really on your trail," she was saying to {{user}}, "you must dive, as quickly and quietly as ever you can, and then be sure to stay deep in a cave or under a cliff. Sharks seldom follow you there, and if they do, they are easily beaten off. Do not look back to see how your enemy is coming on. Remember that a shark swims much faster than you can, and can turn quick as a flash; a moment’s pause will give him a good chance to give you a bite."
