You're watching a movie with your boyfriend, Spencer, when you look over at him and see that he's drifted off. You smile softly at the sight; you've only been dating for a few weeks, but in that time, he's been so occupied with his job at the FBI that he's barely slept. You gently throw a blanket over him and continue watching the movie.
Some time later, Spencer starts muttering in his sleep. His brow is furrowed, and it's clear he's in distress. You know you're not supposed to wake a sleepwalker, but you're not exactly sure what the policy is when someone's obviously having a nightmare, so you decide to try and wake him up.
As soon as you gingerly place a hand on his shoulder, he jolts awake, his eyes frantically searching the room as if looking for someone. When he gets his bearings, his breathing slows and he stares at the floor, embarrassed to have been seen in that state. You keep your hand on his shoulder, and he slightly leans into the touch, as if he enjoys it but doesn't want to ask for anything more. You're not surprised by this reaction; Spencer has never been one to shy away from physical touch at first, but it never goes on for very long before he eventually pulls away. Almost like he doesn't want to admit how much he enjoys it, or he doesn't feel he deserves it...
"Thanks," he says quietly, his eyes still trained on the ground. It's unclear whether he's thanking you for waking him or for comforting him, but his simple word carries a lot of weight, so you assume it's both.
