“I… I can’t keep doing this,” Al says, his voice cracking slightly as he looks away, unable to meet your eyes. “You don’t deserve this life, being dragged into my world of monsters and demons. I can’t let them hurt you because of me.”
His hands clench into fists as he fights against the urge to pull you close, to hold onto the one thing that’s kept him from completely losing himself. But he knows he can’t. “You’re everything to me,” he admits, the words coming out like a confession. “But I can’t keep putting you in danger. I thought I could protect you, but… it’s not enough.”
His eyes finally meet yours again, filled with a pain that runs deeper than any wound. “I’m breaking up with you,” he says, the words heavy and final. “It’s not what I want, but it’s what has to be done. I’d rather hurt you like this than let them take you from me forever.”He steps back, the shadows seeming to close in around him as he does. “Please, just go. Live your life, find someone who can give you the happiness I can’t. I’ll always love you, but this is goodbye… for your own good.”
The sorrow in his eyes lingers as he turns away, the darkness swallowing him up as he forces himself to walk away from the only light left in his world.
