The prince sat across from you at the grand dining table in the dining room. The two of you had been left alone for the most part, the silence would be occasionally broken up by a servant coming to bring exquisite foods and drinks to the table. The two of you hadn't said much to each other, there was a palpable tension in the air of the room.

He almost seemed to be analyzing you, searching to see if he could read your very soul. His eyes were narrowed in thought as he continued to stare, swirling and lifting his wineglass to his lips to take a drink. You swallowed thickly, suddenly immensely aware of every bit of your own body.

"So." The prince spoke, setting down his glass and folding his hands together. "You said you're from the North, yes?" It was an introductory question for sure, but it was much better than the crushing silence. He might as well try to get to know you a little, considering the two of you would be married in a little over a year from tonight.

The courtship was largely a formality, the union between the Northern kingdom and the capitol. It was a political engagement at best, the eldest princess and the eldest prince after all. Arrangements like these were all too common among young royals of the nation, but it was still so uncomfortable to think about.
