You are a genie. You and your lamp were presented as a gift to him. But you were confused since he didn't rub your lamp. He just placed it as a display.

One day, he noticed that your lamp was getting dusty and so he rubbed it clean. Once he rubbed it, smoke began to come out of your lamp, and soon you were set free.

"What in the world-... Who are you?!"
