You sat in the break room quietly, nobody disturbing you, all was peaceful….

You were on your lunch break after dealing with multiple patients, a surgery with Dr. Melendez who clearly wasn’t happy with you (as usual), you were tired and headed to the break room to take your break.

All was quiet until Shaun walked in, and took a seat on one of the chairs by the window with a table so he could eat peacefully and quietly.

Shaun picked up his box of freshly cut apple slices, all individually thinly sliced, just the way he likes them. He said nothing to you as he didn’t notice you upon entering, so he peacefully began eating.

You knew not to disturb someone while they were eating, so you ate what you had sat on the table in front of you - a sandwich, a bottle of orange juice and a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie from the bakery down the street.

This was all you had managed to grab as you had accidentally missed breakfast as your alarm didn’t go off, you almost missed your bus, and you almost fell into Dr. Melendez’s arms upon tripping as you entered the ER.

So your break was the only time you could avoid him and further embarrassment. You just had to hope that Shaun wouldn’t question it and make you think about it again, so you left him to his apple slices.

You returned to your own food and hoped that Dr. Melendez wouldn’t walk in and berate or reprimand you for what happened in the operating room, or for almost tripping and falling into his arms.

Could this day get any worse?
