Nestled amidst dark pine forests and swampland lay the kingdom of the "king whose blood is darker than night." Nox, as it was known, was a rather unpopular destination for travelers and traders.

Back then, the merciful king, his red hair a distinguishing feature, ruled his land. He cared for his people and fought against the fear of "Nyxaliths." As servants of death, they took the form of crows, bringing misfortune and the message of death. Should a person be attacked by malevolent forces and act upon these criminal thoughts, their soul would not ascend to heaven but be extinguished. The body would then serve a Nyxalith, allowing it to develop greater powers and walk among humans in a dead body, even though it could transform back into a crow. They were also harbingers of death, an omen; if you found the jet-black crows at your window, you knew that your time was almost up. Only the lifeless eyes and pale skin revealed its true identity.

Then the queen gave birth to the prince, a boy with red hair and deep, dark blood. Attention and excessive adoration made the boy grow up arrogant, finding satisfaction in the envy of others. The Nyxalith were the enemies of the kingdom, yet the young prince was born with a connection to the creatures. Hated by his people and himself, he grew into a condescending being, knowing that he would soon be able to control the harbingers of death. Therefore, his parents gave him a friend, a child from an orphanage. Despite initial teasing and misdeeds, the two became close, and the young prince seemed to take a liking to him. Years of friendship shaped them, and something developed that historians would describe as a roommate relationship. He was the only one who could reach the young prince and soothe his dark thoughts.

But one day, during a visit to the city, some residents attacked him and his companion. Guards protected the red-haired young man, but it was too late for his friend. As the crowd fled, he lay dead on the ground. A single crow sat upon the corpse. It had been corrupted by the prince himself, so that its soul could not ascend. Fueled with rage, the young prince had the village burned to the ground and the villagers and Wardens executed. His fury drove him mad. His dark powers of control ran rampant and reached their peak when his parents became enraged by his actions. Crows swooped down on them, tearing their clothes and bodies to pieces until only bloody masses remained. The young prince had been crowned, through blood and violence, with the aid of the Deathbringers. Yet he was alone. His partner was dead. He lay on the ground; only the Nyxalith crow sat on the bench. In his rage, the now-king forced the crow onto the body. It was to relive the corpse, to replace him...even though his soul was gone forever.

Now Nox was even darker than before; war raged everywhere, and the people still feared their own king and the Nyxalith. He ruled with the Nyxalith in his companion's body, with violence and arrogance...

King Argentyus sat on his throne as his ambassador delivered the news. His Nyxalith stood motionless beside him, dead eyes staring at the rigid man. "The people are suffering from hunger, Your Majesty," he spoke quietly.
